Design and layout

A number of different design and layout options have been produced and considered. Our preferred option retains the current alignment of the main road, maintains the view of St Mark’s Church, and allows for pedestrian and cycling through-access only at the southern end.

Careful consideration will be given to the interface between the potential new residential area and the existing industrial estate. The proposed site would be purely residential and entirely separate from commercial activities.

Apartments would be located along the railway line boundary, replacing the tall building in this area which would be demolished.

A generous area of central public space would be created within the development for residents use. The space will be used for informal play and meeting place that encourages residents to meet and mingle. The boundary here would be enclosed using railings and a formal hedge and ornamental planting to provide screening.

Green space provision would be kept to blocks of shrub planting at edges, parking bay division and wider grass seeded areas. Where appropriate the implementation of rain gardens to highway edges and between parking bays will be explored.
